Up On Strings
Money is locked up,
Like a blood bank
Pumping plasma
For parlor tricks.
Sticks and stones in order,
Break the aberrant bones.
A diverse surface will suffice.
Puppets are the same inside.
Abide by the stringent strings
Hooking your arteries.
Tapped in, drying out,
Foreign as any migrant.
Tyrant, a nonsense word?
Worn to dust in screams.
Dreaming of the rust
To coat their greed.
Seeding the puppet show,
Players wooden as a witch.
The stiff improv of living
Before the curtain falls.
Ask me to write a poem,
And I will let you in my world,
Give you a glimpse of what you can't see,
Ask me to write a poem,
And you will hear the moaning of the waves,
But never see them,
Ask me to write a poem,
And you will see the storm clouds,
But won't feel their raging winds.
Ask me to write a poem,
And you will feel the ice cold pangs of the rain,
But never smell it as it drowns the earth.
Ask me to write a poem,
And you will smell the fire burning,
But never taste the blood it leaves behind.
Ask me to write a poem,
And you will taste the dirt of the soiled ground,
But never hear the quiver if the raging war.

Ask me to write another poem
Ask me to write a poem of faith.
I'd write one to which you could relate.
A story of one of mans greatest questions.
Have we filled the role of which we were destined?
Ask me to write a poem of pride.
Something most people have lost deep inside.
Often associated with where you were born.
Never replaced once the spirit is torn.
Ask me to write a poem of lust.
Breaking the chains of love and trust.
Always Desiring what is best left alone.
Rattling a lesser man down to his bones.
Ask me to write a poem of love.
I'd write of a raven instead of a dove.
With much darker words than the wings of the bird.
Because love is more treacherous than you may have heard.
Ask me to write a poem of passion.
I'd write one up in the timeliest fashion.
I'll tell you of the depths to which I had to go.
Shedding my skin and releasing my soul.
Ask me to write a poem of crime.
I'd have a rough draft in no matter of time.
Having to steal and sleeping on benches.
Living my life face down in the trenches.
Ask me to write a poem
And I'll look at you blankly;
I'm not well-versed in this sort of thing.
Though I've got form,
My collection's prosaic.
I'll float an idea but that ship's going to sink.
Ask me to write a poem -
I will marry my words up.
They'll live more in sickness than in good health.
Here are some lines
To demonstrate friendship
But wouldn't you like a one-liner instead?

Ask Me To Write A Poem
Ask Me To Write A Poem
About pain, about life, about death...
Ask Me To Write A Poem
Ask me to write away all the suffering you've felt
To right the wrongs that have befallen you
to fix the hand that you've been dealt
Ask Me To Write A Poem
Ask me to illustrate the budding roses and bubbling springs
to illuminate a newborn fawn, or a bright eyed pup
to draw upon those sorts of things
Ask Me To Write A Poem
Ask me to sing a dirge like a ravens caw
to chant your name, through the thickest fog
to recite a line, like a bard from ancient law
Ask Me To Write A Poem
About your life, about my new hope, about us...
Ask me to write a poem,
And I will write you a dream,
A life you've never seen.
Ask me to write a poem,
Where the wind is welcoming,
A place that holds peace in its gentle hands.
Ask me to write a poem,
I will paint beauty with words,
And create a rose from letters.
Ask me to write a poem,
Your pain may be a weight that snaps your wings,
But my words can create the nectar that heals you,
So flutter into the wind,
Take flight in my world I made for you,
And ask me to write a poem.

Ask me to write a poem
about the ball shaped bone in my middle finger.
Ask me to write a poem
about the heavy pen with the dark ink
that has helped me form the words
to free the stories in my mind.
Ask me to write a poem
about the holes in the walls of my bedroom,
about the broken window with the birds nest,
or about my vandalized dresser that hardly opens from years of abuse.
Ask me to write a poem
about the scars on my face,
from falling and being "Harry Potter"
to the hole Scooby put in my lip.
Ask me to write a poem about

about the discolored bruises on my knees
the poetry written in ink upon my flesh
the love in a foreign tongue on my wrist.
Ask me to write a poem
about Boyfriend,
my possessive Siamese,
about my rose thorn teeth,
and the battle scars I wear like trophies.
Ask me to write a poem
about how my own words make me sick,
about how I swear I'll die by the pen.
